Why is it that when we look in a mirror we try to see all of our imperfections, but when we look into the water, we try to look deeper
We see ourselves, we smile, we splash the water as if we will disappear, we grin even harder when we see ourselves again as if it is magic
We see our shadow and we jump around, finding joy in the outline of what we look like
Sometimes we may even try to trace the darkness and we find enjoyment in that
How often do we reflect?
How often do we criticize?
More often than not I find myself going over the things I could have done better or things I should have done differently
Rarely do I take the time to think about how I got here and how far I have come
After we reach our goal, we set a new one, quickly forgetting the accomplishment that we yearned for so long
We can take years working after a certain end result, but once it is achieved it only takes seconds before we are asking ourselves what are we going to do next
It’s okay to never be satisfied, but we should celebrate our successes no matter how small of a victory it is
You make one mistake and you think about it for weeks, months, years, maybe longer
You get an A on that test that you studied for, for hours, long nights, little sleep, and you forget about it by the time you go back to that same class
We live in an era where progression is great, but so is depression
May there be a correlation?
Perhaps we are trying to progress at a speed that we cannot humanily keep up with
We create these new apps, gadgets, movements, etc., but in the end we are the test trial
Research to measure these effects will not be completed until we are near the end of our cycle
We develop everything to work faster, store more data, anything that allows us to process information faster, but we forget that our brain cannot rewire as quickly
We are not developed to process information as fast as machines, hence why many people are being replaced with technology
Back in the day people use to use the newspaper and maybe one news channel as their source of information
Now we can google and find out what we need to know in less than a second
That’s all fine and dandy except for the fact that we are not actually built to retain this much information
Our society wonders why depression is growing or why people struggle with self image, but have we not thought that we did this to ourselves
We have developed so many ways to see and view other people’s life, but yet have had no training on how to protect ourselves from unhealthy comparisons
We continue to feed into the people that are already famous, whether we like them or not, spending time on the social media pages or read about them in the magazines, instead of focusing in on our own lives and how to make them better
If someone wrote a story about you, would you even know it was your book?
Often we scramble around, trying to figure out the fastest way to get places and do things, but sometimes we need to slow down and appreciate the things around us
Hop off your bike, park your car, and take a walk
Let life happen at a pace that we can comprehend and take your time to appreciate the smallest things
The more we take things for granted, the harder it will be to recognize the gems that are laying right in front of us
Brush off the dirt and let yourself shine
That is the only way to reflect isn’t it?
