You ever want to talk and it’s not that they won’t listen, but it’s because they won’t understand
What you’ve been through, how you process it, what you’ve done with your own hands
How can anyone ever know you, when you don’t even know yourself
Mainly because the things that break you, you always put on the bottom shelf
It’s not that you never pick it up, but it’s because you don’t want to look
Who wants to read the words and look at the pictures of a sad book
You try to put it in the past and move on with your life
But the truth is, the shadow always follows causing you strife
You want to open the book, you want to read the chapters
But if you can’t get past the introduction then why does the rest even matter
What’s so scary? What’s so sad? What are you afraid of?
It’s in this book that tells you everything that you are made of
If this book didn’t exist who would you be?
A better version of yourself or avoiding conflict purposely
It’s going through the hard times that make the good times so good
I don’t know if I believe that, I liked the life better living under a hood
Ignorant to the world and everything happening around me
That’s when I was the happiest, only worrying about me
But then there’s this wonderful thing called emotions and memories
Makes you wonder what could have been and things you wish you’d never seen
Sometimes you don’t need an image to scar you for life
Just a few small words is all it takes to have you not thinking right
You hear it over and over again, to the point it turns into a melody
But all your ears are doing are bleeding and your heart is falling apart piece by piece
It’s a slow process making the pain much worse
Making you wonder what you did with your life to deserve such a curse
But I guess that’s when you realize that you need to pick up the pieces of your heart
You realize that those pieces were only there for the start
It’s like a child slowing losing their baby teeth
You are growing your adult heart and that will bring you much peace
It doesn’t make the past different or any easier to swallow
But your new heart is like the chaser that always follows
It doesn’t taste any better, but the burn is much shorter
Allowing you to focus, allowing you to bust through the boarders
You can’t re-shape the past, but you can certainly change your future
But there’s no cheat codes, no promo codes, not even a computer
You have to do this on your own, you have to do this for you
Break down the barriers, read the book, there may be more than one or two
It won’t always be easy, but it also won’t always be so hard
The more you work at it, the more you conquer it, you are sure to go far
The longer you wait, the less time you have to live
Relax your mind, open the book, and start to begin
